Born in 1943, Mulatu Astatke is an Ethiopian musician and arranger. He studied music at the Trinity College in London, New York City, and the Berkeley College of Music in Boston.
In the 60’s, he formed the band Mulatu Astatke and his Ethiopian Quintet, with whom, in 1966, rerecorded the albums “Afro-Latin” Volume 1 & 2, in NY City, released on Worthy Records.
When he came back to Ehtiopia, he blended Afro-Latin with Ethiopian traditional music to create “Ethio-Jazz”.
