Before he started recording music, Bonga Kuenda excelled athletically. In the mid 60’s, he became national 400 meter record holder of Angola.
As he was involved in the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola under Salazar’s regime, Bonga had to flee.
First, he went to exile in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where he recorded his debut album “Angola 72” for the Dutch label Morabeza.
Then, he moved to Paris, where he recorded his sophomore album “Angola 74,” which features the notable act “Sodade.”
